Angela Bearth recently spoke at a Science Café on New Genomic Techniques in agriculture organised by the foundation Science et Cité in collaboration with the Forum for Genetic Research of the Swiss Academy of Science (SCNAT): Are new genomic techniques revolutionising agriculture or are they endangering the environment and biodiversity? Can they offer solutions for climate change and food security? Who gets to decide whether and how such techniques are used – scientists, industry or us as a society? And do we need more transparency, for example through labelling?
