Project partners: University of Zurich, University of Amsterdam and Zurich State Police.
DETECT
Under the leadership of Franziska Hofer, the project explored the application of a well-established laboratory method – the Reaction Time Concealed Information Test (RT-CIT) – in the context of aviation security. The method, which is based on the analysis of reaction times, differs fundamentally from approaches that rely on physiological indicators or non-verbal behaviour (e.g. facial expressions, gestures). The RT-CIT is designed to detect whether a person is concealing knowledge, such as information about an imminent crime or affiliation with an extremist network, by measuring delayed reaction times to familiar versus unfamiliar stimuli.
INTENT
This collaboration investigated the effectiveness of strategic interviewing techniques in distinguishing between true and false intentions within the aviation context. HF Partners supported the development and evaluation of a training programme on these techniques.
Both projects were funded by the Federal Office of Civil Aviation (FOCA).
